Come talk with Power to Transform

Wednesday, January 13, 2016 - Posted by PTT

Come talk with the attorneys who are fighting for you!

Thursday, January 14th,  at the Heritage Hall, 6:00 pm
400 West College - Coleman, Texas

Free snacks (cake, pie and other goodies) will be served.
6:00 pm Heritage Hall
Click here to see the news release sent to: KTXS, KTAB, WFAA, Fort Worth Star Telegram and the Brownwood Bulletin

Power to Transform (PTT) REALLY needs to hear from you.  Our two attorneys from the Steakley law firm will be there to tell us how the case is proceeding and what the next steps are to bring the petitions to ballot where we can actually vote on it. They want to hear directly from you, the citizens they are fighting for, on how this high electrical rate is affecting you.

PTT is fighting for you! This is a critical time for all who care about Coleman.

This is what democracy is all about. We are simply asking the court that these two items be put on the ballot for the voters to decide which direction is best for their city. If these solutions are not what the people want, then the initiatives will fail, it is that simple. We encourage you to please clear your schedule and attend this very important meeting.

If you would like to have lower electrical rates in Coleman and would like to support this effort by getting involved with this grassroots movement then please try to attend.

Electrical Petitions get new legs.

Monday, October 12, 2015

The Electrical Petition battle moves forward.

Yes, it has been a few days since any update has been posted and yes the 21 day deadline for the city to answer did expire several days back, so yes this news is much over due .. so as they say, without further ado, here is where we are now.

The city did file their response on a timely basis and as expected used several of the arguments they brought forward in the city council meeting and added a few extras, all of which we feel are really "reaching" when it comes to valid interpretation of law, but of course that is what lawyers are paid to do.

What we did not take into account was the fact that Power to Transform (PTT), the non profit organization that has been formed for citizen advocacy, cannot be represented by an individual in court.  Basically, because PTT is a corporation, only a licensed attorney can legally represent it. An individual can legally represent themselves (Pro Se), but they cannot represent anyone (or any entity) other themselves.

This set off a search for the right law firm, a search that required us to match the firm against the pending legal battle. This we did not take lightly as it was realized without the right talent, the citizens of Coleman could easily be cheated out of their due justice. This search proved to be somewhat lengthy, but... we are very happy to let you know that we have found what we believe is truly a top notch firm;  that is, perfectly suited for the cause.

So, I'm pleased to announce at this time, the firm that will be representing PTT and the citizens of Coleman who just want relief from these abusive electrical rates, is the law firm of Zollie Steakley, PLLC http://www.zolliesteakley.com/

After speaking only a few minutes with Mr. Steakley the first time, I realized he has the perfect set of qualifications required to bring relief to Coleman.

Petitions take a big step forward.

Monday, August 31, 2015 - Posted by Craig

Today at 4:00 pm, Power to Transform, Inc. filled a petition for a writ of Mandamus with the District court in Coleman, Texas

Although this is a rather complex legal document, it boils down to this simple statement.

We the people are asking the judge to take a look at this matter, the fact that the city of Coleman has denied its citizens their democratic right to vote, and compel the city to follow the law (its own charter) and bring this matter to a popular vote.

This is what democracy is all about.

City council denies citizens and votes to ignore petitions

Friday, May 22, 2015 - Posted by Craig Allen

City council denies citizens and votes to ignore both electrical petitions.

As we suspected, the council, after returning from executive session and receiving a presentation from Mr. Roy Poage and Mr. Chesser, voted 4-0 to ignore the petitions.

Mr. Poage, who was not on the Agenda and who apparently had not filled out a form as required by the new resolution (the mayor was not aware of any such request) was given a great deal of time to fully denigrate the petitioners in general and in particular, myself Craig Allen for what he called lies and ...

New electrical study by private citizen

Wednesday, May 20, 2015, in City news, Opinion/Commentary

Eric Joffrion has just submitted this study to us.

A summary of this work is presented below. In addition, multiple pages of supporting documents have been included which we will post on the forum.

Eric shows clearly that the actual revenue from the electrical system does not come close to what many believe. In addition, these figures do not include having to replace equipment that is ...>

Letter to the editor - Electrical Studies

Wednesday, May 20, 2015 - Posted by Craig Allen, in City news, Opinion/Commentary

Electrical petitions are on the agenda.
The two petitions are once again on the city council agenda to be discussed by the council this Thursday, May 21st, 2015.

The agenda also introduces some parallel discussions, including a request by the city manager asking the council to allow the City Manager to seek and advertise for proposals from a Professional CPA who is properly qualified, to
